Travel Hell: The 28 Worst Movie Journeys, Just in Time for the Holiday Weekend By Richard Rushfield, Katie Hasty, Drew McWeeny, Daniel Fienberg, Alan Sepinwall, Louis Virtel, Chris Eggertsen, Donna Dickens, Dave Lewis, Josh Lasser,Matt Patches of HitFix | < PREVIOUS SLIDE SLIDE 1 of 28 NEXT SLIDE > ‘Midnight Run’ Destination: For bounty hunter Jack Walsh to get mob accountant Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukas from New York to Los Angeles within five days to collect the $100 thousand bounty that will allow him to retire and open a coffee shop. Obstacles in the way: Where to start? How about FBI Agent Alonzo Mosely, who wants the Duke in his custody so he can testify against mobster Jimmy Serrano? Or Serrano’s many goons who want to kill the Duke (and Jack, if he gets in the way) to keep him from testifying? Or rival bounty hunter Marvin Dorfler, who stalks Jack most of the way and cancels his credit card, forcing Jack to scrounge and even scam for money as he shifts from a plane, to a train, to a bus, to several different cars, in his attempt to get the Duke to LA in time. Low point in the journey: After surviving a botched hit in Chicago, Walsh and the Duke visit Jack’s ex-wife to beg for money, and a mortified Jack comes face-to-face with the daughter he hasn’t seen in years since Serrano ruined his life and drove him out of town. Outcome: The two men bond over their long and difficult cross-country trip, and Jack even finds a way to send Serrano to prison.
